Balavant Apte, ideal RSS swyamsewak and legendary organiser for ABVP is No More :(



Balavant Apte, born (18 January 1939 - 17 July 2012, age 73), Apte died of chronic lung disease at the Hinduja Hospital. Born on January 18, 1939 at Rajgurunagar in Pune district.

 Apte was a lawyer by profession. He was a former Additional Advocate General of Maharashtra and had also served as member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Defence and Committee on Petitions. Apte was former President of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and was active in ABVP for 38 years.He shaped post independence nationalists students movement of this country.His contribution in establishing philosophy and making ABVP's presence in all over india was unique.He was also on Governing Council of Shikshan Prasarak Mandali, an educational institution running 20 colleges and schools for about two decades. He also served as vice president of Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhni and was chairman of Vidyarthi Nidhi Trust. During Emergency, he was detained under the MISA from December 1975 to February 1977.Apte, a prominent face of the Sangh in the BJP, was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra twice in 2000 and 2006. He was BJP vice president during 2002-2010 and was also member of the Central Parliamentary Board of BJP.
